What kind of villains do you guys like?
Mustache twirling obvious ones? Turncoats? Shadowy presence that's never seen?

Depends on the context of the narrative. I like every type of villain, and a mix of them keeps things interesting. Sometimes you want a more straightforward mustache-twirling villain that feels really good to thwart and defeat. Sometimes you want a complicated villain that makes you think. The important thing is to switch them up so that they don't get predictable.

I don't really like the totally evil for the sake of evil kind of villain. I prefer one that has a logical reason for doing shitty things.

Personally I like the Mustache twirling ones, they let me feel like the 'good guy' and know that I did a good thing, but the others are right and they can be over used, so mixing it up is nice. Making them a bit more complicated, and almost relatable helps them feel less EVIL!!! and more like they had no other option.
One or two of the 'Shadowy presence that's never seen' a campaign is nice, especially if they show up the last two events. Not to fight us but simply to see how things are going would be neat.
Again personally, I don't like 'Turncoats' at all. A well placed one, or one that gradually gets corrupt (like Nettel did with the Black Sap) are great, but just a straight 'you fools' I don't like. In a LARP you suspend disbelief on a lot of things, and I try to be trusting person generally. Getting back-stabbed over and over simply justifies being a murder hobo.

I think it ultimately depends on the context of why the villain is a villain. Someone who is a turncoat, just because they feel like being an asshole, is meh to me. The super obvious villains annoy me, because if you are that obviously evil, then how did you manage to survive for so long with no one gakking your ass? Also, when someone is obviously evil, then it is aggravating when the townsfolk aren't in agreement to just end them. I like the subtle villainy, that once it is discovered, requires either a little finesse to be defeated, or it is easy to come together as a town to take them down. The "evil unless you consider the greater good" concept is not my personal fave, since it hits too close to what is dealt with in reality. I don't come to LARP for reality...
